Just a few days before its early access launch, Remnant 2 has been confirmed Steam Deck by its developer. And that's good news, right? Absolutely! As someone who has been looking forward to playing this game and someone who plays on the Steam deck, the tweet below was like music to my ears. This is despite the fact that I was already playing it on Steam as part of the review period and was mostly happy with it. But I'm still not convinced that anyone hoping to play Remnant 2 on Steam Deck should jump right in. Let me explain. #Remnant2 #SteamDeck confirmed!

My problem with it is that nothing in the four criteria relates to frame rate. This is very important. Based on Valve's criteria, Remnant 2 actually ticks all four boxes. There are no compatibility warnings, the controller system works on the Deck out of the box with Country Email List no additional modifications, it supports the Deck's native 1280 x 800 resolution, and there are no issues with the Proton. I was using Proton Experimental to make sure I had the latest and greatest available, but it's all good. The problems I experienced make it hard for me to recommend buying Remnant 2 right away if you plan on playing a lot on Steam.
It's not bad but it could definitely use some work. Remnant 2 mostly plays well on Steam Deck, but not enough to recommend for a day. For starters, the game won't run at 720p or 1280 x 800 native Deck at just 30 FPS. At least not consistently. For example, the tutorial mission is perfectly locked to 30 FPS and can even go up to 40 FPS, but when you enter the first part of the dungeon, it starts to sink. Similarly, when you first visit Ward 13 (and in my experience, subsequent visits), the framerate constantly drops below 30 and regularly hovers around 24/25 FPS. It's not unplayable, but it's hardly great. Things are better in the first world you enter as part of the campaign, and I played through it up to and including the first boss fight, which rarely goes down. But after the boss fight, the areas I was sent to had more visual effects, like particles floating in the air, and it was less executed.
